I wanted to be a concert pianist

When I was as young as six years old, I told everyone I was going to be a concert pianist when I grew up. I never took formal lessons. I played by ear and with some assistance from my Mother I learned to read some sheet music. When I was a sophomore in highschool I was still telling people I was going to be a concert pianist someday. After I graduated, I met a very pragmatic individual who explained to me that I had no talent and I was too old to pursue a career in music, so I gave up my dream. What did you want to be when you grew up? Is that what you're doing now? If not, why?
